Broken Halo
Press
Where the work decides the form.
About Broken Halo Press
Traditional publishing often starts by asking what kind of book something is. Broken Halo Press starts by asking what the idea actually needs.
An idea can be serious without becoming a conventional book. It can live in a set of cards, a workbook you write all over, a colouring book that changes what you notice, a journal you return to over months, an online experience, a course, a workshop, or something that borrows from several of those forms at once.
What matters is whether the form lets the work do what it was created to do.

What we publish
Broken Halo Press publishes books, colouring books, cards, journals, workbooks, digital products and educational materials, alongside the courses and workshops that sometimes grow around them.
Some work is made to be read once and carried with you. Some needs to be used, revisited, written in, taught, tested, questioned or returned to at a different point in your life.
We are interested in both.
Broken Halo Press gives original work room to keep its own shape, rather than cutting it down to fit a familiar publishing category. That means the catalogue can be coherent without being uniform, and the ideas can remain recognisably theirs from first concept to finished release.
Ownership matters here, and so does craft, which in practice means making the thing properly rather than making it easier to explain.
Who is behind it
Broken Halo Press is founded and edited by Tammy, an academic and published author whose own work has never sat neatly in one category.
Her PhD in the psychosociology of worth informs much of the thinking behind NYXIOM, but Broken Halo Press gives that thinking room to travel further, into different subjects, different formats and different kinds of work.
That refusal to be filed is part of where the press came from, because the question of what a piece of work is actually for kept producing answers that did not fit the usual formats.
First release
Threadfinders is the first release from Broken Halo Press.
It began exactly where this press begins, with the question of what form the work actually needed.
The answer was not a printed deck or a downloadable guide.
Threadfinders lives online through NYXIOM, where the cards, interpretation, prompts and guided experience remain connected rather than being broken apart into separate products.
That decision is part of the work, not packaging around it.
What comes next
Broken Halo Press is being built as a long term catalogue, not a single project with a logo attached to it.
Some releases will be things you can hold. Others will exist digitally, be taught in a room, used as part of a course, written into, coloured, revisited or experienced in ways that do not fit comfortably under the word “book”, which is rather the point.
Broken Halo Press is interested in what becomes possible when the work gets to dictate what happens next.
